Description
Sliced gravlax – classic Swedish dill-cured salmon, ready to serve. It needs no preparation: enjoy it cold, straight from the fridge, as a starter, on a buffet or on a Swedish smörgåsbord.
How it is made
The salmon is cured in a traditional mixture of salt, sugar, dill and pepper. The curing gives an even, fine flavour with a balanced note of dill and pepper, and a wonderfully tender texture.
Serving ideas
- With the classic mustard-dill sauce (hovmästarsås) and dark bread
- With boiled new potatoes, sour cream and chives
- On crispbread with a squeeze of lemon
How much? Count 50–75 g per person as a starter or on a buffet and 100–150 g as a main course, so one 300 g pack serves 4–6 as a starter. More in our quantity guide.
Quick answers
- Is gravlax smoked? No – it is cured in salt, sugar, dill and pepper, never smoked. That gives its tender texture and fresh dill flavour. Prefer a smoky taste? Try our sliced cold-smoked salmon.
- Does it need any preparation? No – it is ready to eat; serve it cold, straight from the fridge.
- Hosting a big party? A whole gravlax fillet (1.6–1.8 kg) serves 20 or more as a starter or on a buffet.
