How much seafood per person? A simple quantity guide
October 28, 2026 – Fiskskaldjur
Not sure how much to order? These are rule-of-thumb quantities per person. Adjust for appetite and for how many other dishes are on the table.
Fresh fish fillets
Plan 150–200 g per person as a main course. Our fillets are sold by weight, so you can order exactly what you need. See how to cook fresh fish fillets.
Mussels
About 500 g per person as a starter and up to 1 kg as a main course. Fresh mussels come in 1 kg packs. Here is how to cook them.
Shrimps
As a starter, plan roughly 100–150 g of peeled or 200–250 g of unpeeled shrimps per person; as a main course about double. See the shrimp guide.
Lobster, crab and langoustines
For a seafood platter, count half a lobster or a crab claw or two per person as a starter, and a whole lobster for a main course. Our seafood platter guide shows how to combine them.
Crayfish
At a kräftskiva, where crayfish are the main event, plan roughly 500 g to 1 kg per person.
Gravlax and smoked salmon
About 50–80 g per person as a starter or on a buffet, and 100–150 g as a main course. A 300 g pack of sliced gravlax therefore serves four to six as a starter.
Roe
A generous spoonful of about 20–30 g per person is enough for blini or toast. Read how to serve Kalix löjrom.
