Fish, crustaceans or molluscs? Seafood allergens explained
October 28, 2026 – Fiskskaldjur
In European food law, fish, crustaceans and molluscs are listed as three separate allergens. Someone who is allergic to one group is not automatically allergic to the others, but you should always ask the guest.
Fish
All fish count as the allergen "fish": salmon and gravlax, cod, haddock, halibut, herring, mackerel, sander and the other fillets in our fresh fish collection, as well as herring and fish roe.
Crustaceans
Shrimps, langoustines, crab, lobster, king crab and crayfish are crustaceans. Skagenröra and many seafood spreads contain shrimps, so they count as crustaceans too.
Molluscs
Mussels and scallops are molluscs.
Sauces and other products
Sauces and pies can contain egg, milk, mustard, gluten or other allergens in addition to fish or shellfish. Always read the ingredients and the allergen line on the product page.
Where to check
